From Yabby You to Curtis Mayfield, Skankin’ Society , based in Geneva, West Switzerland, has been getting old school sound lovers to dance since the beginning of the century. Founded by Tim-I and Rock-Hit, the crew started playing in many of Geneva’s squatts, outdoor parties, and self-organized sessions.
Through the times, they constantly developed by surrounding themselves with persons of varied skills: the Korrigan, MC ManoJah Shanti-I, Miss Tikaly and a lots of other members who work behind the scene and make everything possible.
The spirit of the crew is inspired by the Jamaican sound system culture and its British interpretation. With a passion for the 60′s to 80′s repertoire, they play many treasures from these decades to share their musical knowledge.
Since 2002, the crew is providing nightlife party and street entertainment; to be independent, they started to build some random speakers, to collect tunes and various amps.
Autonomous, Skankin’ Society always moves its own equipment. From underground spots to open air festivals or groovy clubs, they adapt themselves to all kind of places and situations, indoor as outdoor.
Keeping the reggae sound tradition alive, spreading a positive message of peace & love, equal rights & justice, Skankin’ Society Sound System plays Rocksteady, Roots & Culture classics as well as the latest heavyweight dubs of the new millenium.
